Barázdazárást a fog előtörését követő 6 hónapon belül javasolt elvégezni, azt feltételezve, hogy ennyi idő alatt még nem tud a barázda annyira fertőződni, hogy a barázdazárás alatt a fog szuvasodjon. Ebből kifolyólag felnőtteknél nem javasolt barázdazárást végezni.
