What brought the patient to our clinic?

Our 57-year-old patient had been struggling for years with acid reflux, which led to severe tooth wear. Many of her old fillings had become loose or fallen out, and a previous car accident had broken her front teeth. These issues caused both aesthetic and functional discomfort. She experienced tooth sensitivity, reduced bite force, and difficulty chewing due to the erosion-related damage. Visually, she was bothered by the discolored, misaligned, and fractured front teeth. Her goal was to achieve a uniform, symmetrical, and brighter smile than her original tooth color.

Diagnosis and Proposed Treatment

Dr. Béla Sápi, specialist in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics, recommended full upper and lower full-contour zirconia (also known as monolithic zirconia) bridges. Our clinical team also advised extracting one non-restorable wisdom tooth and one inflamed, root-treated and crowned lower lateral incisor to ensure long-term success.

The treatment aimed not only to restore the original pre-erosion tooth structure, but also to reestablish a comfortable, anatomically correct bite height for proper jaw joint function.

How did the procedure go?

In total, 29 teeth were prepared for the restorations. Dr. Péter Jancsecz, oral surgeon, then performed the necessary extractions. Impressions were taken, along with precise bite registration.

Before the final restoration, a PMMA (acrylic) mock-up was tried in. This step allowed the doctor to verify the technical details and gave the patient the opportunity to approve the aesthetics of the planned bridge.

The final full-contour zirconia restorations were then delivered—to the patient’s complete satisfaction. Not only did she regain a beautiful, harmonious smile, but her chewing function was also fully restored.
